Drosselmeyer

Drosselmeyer emerged as the winner of 142nd Belmont Stakes at Belmont Park in Elmont, New York on Saturday June 5, 2010. Hall of Fame trainer Bill Mott managed to claim his first Triple Crown victory after Drosselmeyer clinched a stunning win over favorite Ice Box, runner-up of Kentucky Derby. Drosselmeyer, ridden by jockey Mike Smith, completed the 1 ½-mile race (2400m) with a time of 2 minutes and 31.57 seconds. Smith was never able to register a win in Belmont Stakes with his record (0-12) was quite miserable but he achieve a stunning victory on Saturday to get his tally now at 13-1.

Fly Down grabbed second place while Preakness Stakes’ runner-up First Dude earned third place in 142nd Belmont Stakes, the third and final leg of the Triple Crown. WinStar Farm, owner of Drosselmeyer, registered their second Triple Crown win of the season as “Super Saver” earned them a victory in the Kentucky Derby on May 1. WinStar President Doug Cauthen said,

“Great training and a great ride. Mike put a great ride on him. He had him in a great rhythm. He came flying down there.”

However, it was a bad day for the favorite “Ice Box” who finished on ninth place. Smith says he is happy with this win and everything worked according to his plan.
